Tommy Lee Jones was born in San Saba, Texas to Clyde and Lucille Jones on September 15, 1946. His father was a ranch hand-turned-oil rigger and his mother, a beauty parlor owner. The Jones family finally settled in Midland, TX where Tommy Lee received an athletic scholarship to attend St. Mark's School of Texas, an elite boys prep school in Dallas, TX. Even as a child, he acquired a rough-and-tumble image and excelled in both academics and athletics. It was at St. Mark's that Tommy Lee Jones' interest in acting began.

| Upon graduation from St. Mark's, Tommy Lee Jones attended Harvard University and wound up being roommates with future vice president, Al Gore. At Harvard, Tommy Lee continued to play football and pursued his acting dream. Tommy Lee Jones graduated cum laude from Harvard in 1969, with a degree in English and upon graduation moved to New York to perform on stage. |
Tommy Lee Jones landed his first film role in "Love Story" in 1970. Right from the start, Tommy Lee's career was off and running.
