The first episode of the "Rawhide" TV series aired on January 9, 1959 with a cast including:
- Eric Fleming as Gil Favor
- Clint Eastwood as Rowdy Yates
- Sheb Wooley as Pete Nolan

The western TV series "Gunsmoke" was launched by CBS on September 10, 1955, and as time went own the show featured the following main characters:
- James Arness as Marshal Matt Dillon
- Amanda Blake as Kitty Russell
- Milburn Stone as Dr. Galen 'Doc' Adams

The western TV series "Bonanza" was the first western series filmed in color and ran for 14
seasons, from September 12, 1959 to January 16, 1973. "Bonanza" was the second longest running western televison series, behind "Gunsmoke" and included the following cast:
- Lorne Greene ... "Ben" Cartwright
- Michael Landon ... 'Little Joe' Cartwright
- Dan Blocker ... 'Hoss' Cartwright
- Pernell Roberts ... "Adam" Cartwright
